National Health Careers Conference 2019 – Keynote Speaker Announcement

We are delighted to announce Professor Chris Brookes will be speaking on the Health Careers Live Keynote Stage this year at the National Health Careers Conference in Manchester on Saturday 28th September 2019.

He also happens to be well known in the world of sport as the Chief Medical Officer for Wigan Warriors Rugby League and the England Rugby Football League! Below is Chris’ official bio:

Chris Brookes is Executive Medical Director of Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and Chief Medical Officer, Deputy Chief Executive of the Northern Care Alliance- the NHS Group incorporating Salford Royal and Pennine Acute NHS Trusts. Under the leadership of Sir David Dalton (and now Raj Jain), the Group leads the improvement work at the Pennine Acute Trust with particular focus towards improving patient safety. Chris’s own leadership has concentrated on the domains of emergency medicine, critical care and infection control.

Chris has a special interest in ensuring reliable patient care and has championed the development of the GM clinical specification for high risk surgery. The requirement for dependable delivery of this and consequent improvement in patient outcomes has led to the designation of High Acuity surgical sites across GM.

His clinical work is as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine. He gained his experience in Trauma care as the Royal College of Surgeons Trauma Research Fellow at the University of Michigan Medical Centre. His work there resulted in the award of a Hunterian Professorship from the RCS(Eng) in 2002. This experience proved invaluable in the development of the GM Major Trauma service. This is now delivering excellent and sustainable patient outcomes commensurate with those of the best centres in England.

Chris is currently playing a role in major service change across GM chairing the influential GM Clinical Reference Group in his capacity as Principal Medical Advisor to the GM Health and Social Care partnership. In 2016 he was awarded a degree of Honorary Doctor of Health Care at the University of Bolton.
